Gulmohar Park emerged from Delhi’s post-Independence cooperative housing movement and was established in the late 1960s as a residential enclave closely associated with the city’s journalist community. Land allotted by the DDA was eventually developed into around 325 plots, transforming what was once semi-rural land near Shahpur Jat into one of South Delhi’s established residential addresses. Today, Gulmohar Park is defined by its tree-lined streets, generous parks, low-density character and strong sense of community
Why it remains premium
Its value is less about scale and more about scarcity and character. There is very limited land within the colony, while its established low-rise character makes genuinely well-located larger plots increasingly difficult to find. The combination of privacy, greenery, established neighbourhood character and central South Delhi positioning gives Gulmohar Park a quality that is difficult to recreate today.
Daily life
Daily conveniences are close at hand through its own market and the surrounding Green Park, Yusuf Sarai and Hauz Khas areas. At the same time, residents remain close to Siri Fort Sports Complex, Siri Fort Auditorium, Deer Park and the cultural and dining destinations of Hauz Khas. It is a neighbourhood where privacy, greenery and convenience coexist attractive to families who want a substantial home without moving away from the centre of South Delhi.
Getting around
Gulmohar Park occupies an unusually central position, between Hauz Khas, Green Park, Yusuf Sarai, Neeti Bagh and Siri Fort. Major South Delhi arterial roads provide access across the city, while Green Park Metro on the Yellow Line is approximately a kilometre away. AIIMS, NIFT, major educational institutions, South Extension and other established commercial and lifestyle destinations are all within convenient reach
